Group therapy is a type of psychotherapy that involves one or more therapists working with a group of clients simultaneously, and it can be used to treat a variety of mental health difficulties and challenges.
It can be a very beneficial form of therapy in comparison to the standard 1 – 1 counselling, opening clients up to different dynamic and experiences within the therapeutic environment.
These benefits include:
Peer support – offering a sense of belonging through the encouragement and shared experiences of other group members.
Role modelling – learning how others cope with their problems.
Social skills – helping us learn to understand how to communicate with others and understand the perspectives and attitudes of others.
Confidence – being able to explore emotions and communicate them to others can help to boost confidence.
Self-awareness – allowing us to reflect on what we and others share, providing the opportunity to develop a deeper level of self-awareness, and gaining insight into why we do the things that we do.
Accountability – seeing others committed to their own recovery can help us to stay committed to our own.
As part of Introspectus Therapy's continuing effort to provide support to those in Suffolk/East Anglia, we are excited to begin implementing this service once we have gathered enough participants!
